Delightful Eco-Garden of Bai Xiang Wan lies to the north of gourmet mutton street of Cangshu in the western environs of Suzhou. Set gainst the Heavenly Pool Hill on the north, it borders the old township of Mudu on the east and boasts a tranquil,crystalline lake and surrounding hills covered with luxuriant vegetation which has resulted in the formation of an ecological niche amongst the bustling urban areas, and a blissful "Utopia" by the side of Lake Tai. The legend goes that in remote antiquity the spirit of eel from Lake Tai brought calamities to the region and the people, and Samantabhadra Bodhi-sattva ordered the immortal white elephant with six curved ivory tusks to descend from heaven to wipe out the spirit of eel and do good for the people, and then turned it into a hill watching over the place. Hence the name White Elephant Bay or Bai Xiang Wan in Chinese. In the light of Buddhism the scenic splendors of Bai Xiang Wan possess Zen Buddhist connotations. In spring hundreds of aromatic flowers fascinate the viewer. In summer cicadas chirp shrilly and happily by the stream. In autumn the pure expanse of the lake reflects the bright moon at night.
